PRAISE FOR DEBUT SINGLE 'NIGHTSONG'
"Bathed in slow shimmer atmosphere and an ethereal vocal 'Nightsong' is a haunting offering from Niamh Keane with a deep dark sound" The Last Mixed Tape
"A melodic and meditative folk anthem" Pure MZine
"Beautiful" Gavin Glass, Radio Nova
Born into a family that have always welcomed a sing-song, the piano, violin, acoustic guitar alongside the occasional mandolin, tin whistle and Irish traditional flute were frequently heard and played by herself or her siblings growing up. Her voice is unaffected and natural, carrying a distinctive sound that has developed over the years of singing for and with family, as a member of choirs, at weddings.
Her background and training as a Western classical musician have given her an ear for composition that supports her grá for performance. From sea shanty tunes to dark indie-folk numbers, her songwriting is inspired by a melting pot of the widening "folk" sound such as the American singer-songwriter tradition and the darker inclinations of the alt/indie folk and pop genres. Laura Marling, Anges Obel, Nick Cave, Florence and the Machine and Joni Mitchell are among her influences.
She comes from Clondalkin in Co. Dublin and frequently participates in local music events and collaborating with other musicians and songwriters from the area. In particular, the Áras Chrónáin, an Irish culture centre in
Clondalkin Village, has recently been witness to some excellent music nights in the form of the Troubadour Club.
To date, Niamh has shared the stage with renowned Irish musicians such as Kíla and Damien Dempsey. 2019 saw her perform on some of Irelands renowned stages including Electric Picnic, The Ruby Sessions, the Sugar Club and Whelans to name a few. She was a finalist in IMRO's Christie Hennessy Songwriting Contest and received 2nd place in the Pan Celtic National Song Contest 2019.
2020 sees the release of her first EP titled 'Lake Michigan' - an explorative collection of songs that cross from a distinctive indie-folk territory to a light-hearted jazzy sound with the second single 'You Don't Have A Clue'. The album is expected in April and is available for pre-order soon.
